THE ARMENIAN LETTER – GOD'S NAME
The Armenian letter "Eh" is the 7th letter of the Armenian alphabet. The number 7 is symbolic of many biblical events; God created the world in seven days . . .

The letter "Eh" is the root of the word "Ehoutyoun" meaning "Existence", "I am", "Is".

The prophet Moses encountered God in the wilderness where God spoke to him out of the burning bush, instructing him to deliver his people, the Israelites, from under the yoke of the Pharaoh of Egypt. Moses said to God, " If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you, and they ask me, what is his name? What shall I say to them?" God said to Moses, God told him to call Him "I am" or "Eh" expresses the ultimate- nothing and no one can call himself "I am" except God who was before the ages, Who is beyond man and existence, Who is eternal, Who was from the beginning and will be forever without change

"Eh" is the letter found above most alters in the Armenian Church. As Moses realized God ("I am") to be the Burning Bush, so too does the Armenian Church realize that God dwells at the holy and consecrated alter.

The letter "Eh" is considered to be a holy letter, because its meaning is Holy. It means the name of God in Armenian.
